Biscornu is a French word for 'odd' or 'strange'. The name refers to the wonky shape created by two perfect squares sewn to one another at a 45 degree angle. The resulting pouch is stuffed with fiberfill then tufted with two buttons to create an intriguing little pillow. The two basic units can be created from embroidered, appliqued or pieced squares, or combined techniques. For the best results, both squares should have matching patterns and if embellished with embroidery, choose stitches that are compact and not vulnerable to snagging.
